The center for local history and geneology

Head of the Center: Full Professor Josip Vrandečić, PhD

Contact: jvrandecic@ffst.hr

Center for Local History and Genealogy was established as a platform for the integration of research done by professional and amateur historians in the region. Local History and Genealogy are branches of history that are primarily dealing with individual places and persons in the past. It is therefore focused on the history with the name and place i.e. a more personalized history that differs from the traditional approach focused on general processes and most important individuals only.

It streams to enable research, advice and educational support to researchers interested in historiography on the field of local history and genealogy. In order to obtain that goal the center will be focused on developing projects, organizing scientific conferences and invited lectures to support debate, organizing summer schools and other courses, publishing scientific books and edited volumes in the area of genealogy, population history and local history. The center will form a scientific database that will serve as a tool to gather research results on one place in order to facilitate future research in this area.

Until now the Center for Local History and Genealogy has managed to organize two international scientific conferences focused on early modern Mediterranean history (Dalmatia and the Candian war, commemorating 350 years since the end of the War (1669-2019) – Klis-Split 2019 & Levant at the time of Lepanto – Split 2021) and publish two books in a series “Contributions to local history” (Stipe Zubanović: Burni hod na Dupcima po Vrulji u Berlima i okolo – Split 2016 & Aleksandar Jakir/Andrijana Perković Paloš: Djelovanje Matice hrvatske u Brelima od 1993. do 1997. godine – Split 2018).
