The aim of the course is to introduce students to the ways of warfare in the old age. The ways of forming armies in individual countries and their operation in war and peacetime conditions are analyzed. The issues of army supply, tactics and strategy, morale, the role of the commander through the prism of major wars and individual battles are addressed. Particular emphasis was placed on the characteristics of the Graeco-Persian Wars, the Peloponnesian War, the wars of Alexander the Great, the First and Second Punic War, Caesar's conquest of Gaul, the Roman crushing of rebellions in the imperial era, the activities of Roman armies in Croatian historical territory. |
