Description:
Introducing students to the basic postulates related to early EFL, with a special emphasis on the current Croatian educational context and the role of Croatian as L1.

Learning outcomes:
  1. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: - define the fundamental postulates of the contemporary theories of (foreign) language learning and teaching at an early school age
  2. explain the role of the mother tongue (L1) in the process of early EFL teaching and learning
  3. explain the differences between the processes of language acquisition and language learning
  4. explain the benefits of early EFL learning
  5. explain the differences and characteristics of FL learning and teaching with young learners, teenagers and adults
  6. relate the basic characteristics of young language learners with the appropriate EFL teaching and learning methods and techniques with respect to the four language skills, grammar, vocabulary, L1 use, story-telling, topic-based learning, task-based learning and the role of L1 (Croatian) culture in the process of early EFL
