Learning on the history of museology and its scientific methods. Learning the fundamental methods of the musealisation of the material nad non-material heritage and the communication of the museum knowledge to the users of museums and similar heritage institutions.
Course contents:
1. Introduction and basics of museology theories and practice. The definition of heritage, heritology, heritage institutions
2. Museums and museology. First museums in the world and in Croatia. Development of museology and museography
3. Heritage collections: Initial motives, History (in Split and Croatia). Different collections.
4. Museum exhibits, relaia/musealia, collecting the artefacts
5. Collections and museum funds; selection and cathegorisation of the artefacts
6. Documentation prinicples in museums, basic data and basic procedures, new techniologies in the museum documentation. Protection of museum documentation
7. Stndards in museum work: treatment of objects, exhibitiing the objects, storing objects, museum environment
8. Protection of museum fund, methods of protection (preventive, conservation, restauration)
9. Presentation: methods, display, special exhibitions. Publication: cathalogues of exhibitions
10. Museum staff: curators, other employees
11. Users of muesums: population, children, visitors with special needs, foreigners
12. Educational workshops
13. Quality control in museums
14. Museum marketing, sponsorship
15. The Museum night; International museum day
