Description:
The course introduces students to the basic concepts and methods in the study of meaning in language. It focuses on both semantics (conventional meaning) and pragmatics (interactional meaning). Throughout the semester, students will be introduced to topics such as types of meaning, lexical semantics, sense relations, deixis, implicatures, politeness theory, speech acts, etc.
