Course objectives:
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the orthographic norm of the Croatian standard language and with the notion of language culture. The student will also be introduced to the regularities in implementing voice changes.

Format of instruction: lectures and exercises.
Student responsibilities:
Students are required to:
1. Participate in the teaching process (80 % of lectures and 80 % of exercises
2. Pass mid-term exams (written exam)
3. Behave in accordance with ethical and scientific principles in higher education process
Grading and evaluating student work in class and at the final exam:
In accordance with the stated learning outcomes and the obligations of students in the course, the final assessment is based on the following elements:
1. Passed mid-term exams (or written exam): 75 %
2. Attending class: 25 %

  1. acquire basic habits and skills in the use of language manuals (dictionaries, grammars, spelling) as a basis for further continuous development of language culture
  2. master the orthographic norm
  3. to get acquainted with the principles of norm and standardization of the Croatian standard
  4. distinguish standard from non-standard language form
  5. apply the acquired knowledge in written and spoken practice
