Announcement on the start of classes and the schedule for the reception of first-year undergraduate and integrated study students, academic year 2026/2027

September 28, 2026 – The reception of first-year students enrolled in university undergraduate and integrated undergraduate and graduate study programs will be held according to the schedule available here

September 29, 2026 – Classes begin for all students of university undergraduate and integrated undergraduate and graduate study programs, as well as students in other years of university graduate programs (except for students of the university graduate program in Early and Preschool Education).
October 2, 2026 – Classes begin for 1st and 2nd year students of the university graduate program in Early and Preschool Education.
October 5, 2026 – Classes begin for 1st year students of all other university graduate programs.

Literary Representations of Co-Existence Conference

The Literary Representations of Co-Existence Conference will take place from September 3 to 5, 2026, at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. The main program will be held in the Marko Marulić Hall on September 3 and 4, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The event brings together speakers who will address topics in literature, ecology, postcolonial and spatial studies, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and the relationships between humans and other species. Keynote lectures will be delivered by Dinesh Wadiwel and Mark Bould.

We warmly invite all interested colleagues to join the conference events.

AI-Assisted Abstract Writing workshop

On May 11, 2026, as part of the "Svibanjska druženja" program at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, a practical workshop for students titled "AI-Assisted Abstract Writing" was held. The workshop was designed and led by senior lecturers from the Department of English Language and Literature, Dr. Marija Knežević and Mara Ruža Blažević.

The workshop was conceived in response to the recognized need to improve the quality of abstracts in English in undergraduate and graduate theses across various study programs. Acknowledging the increasingly significant role of artificial intelligence in modern academic and professional environments, the workshop authors developed a series of activities aimed at developing academic writing skills with responsible and thoughtful use of generative AI tools.

Although the workshop was primarily intended for final-year undergraduate and graduate students preparing their theses, strong interest led to the participation of students from other years as well. During the two-hour session, participants engaged in practical, expert-led activities, analyzing abstracts of scientific papers in English with the goal of improving their content and language. Special attention was devoted to identifying the key structural elements of an abstract, employing an appropriate academic style, and effectively summarizing scientific content.

As part of the workshop, students also explored the application of various generative AI tools in the abstract-writing process, with an emphasis on their ethical, responsible, and critical use. In addition, participants actively contributed by sharing their own experiences with summarizing scientific texts and using AI in academic contexts.

In conclusion, both participants and workshop leaders emphasized that AI tools have become an indispensable part of contemporary academic practice. The importance of maintaining academic integrity, critical thinking, and the irreplaceable role of human contribution in scientific and scholarly writing was strongly highlighted.

Our Students at the BIP in Cádiz

At the University of Cádiz, Spain, a Blended Intensive Program entitled "Ibero-America in Dialogue" was held from March 23 to March 27, 2026. Students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split—Lara Sartori, Toni Andrija Hajduk, Ana Lisica, and Tea Stančić—participated in the program. The students were led by Associate Professor Dr. Gordan Matas, who delivered lectures on multiculturalism in the Americas as part of the program.

The program included a series of lectures on Ibero-American connections and their reflections in culture, politics, and literature. Professors and students from the SEA-EU alliance participated in the program, representing Cádiz, Gdańsk, Brest, Kiel, Faro, and Split.

Meet Mariam and Learn Everything About the Erasmus+ Programme

Find out everything you would like to know about the Erasmus+ international student mobility programme!

Mariam Lagundaridze, a student from Georgia currently undertaking an Erasmus traineeship at the Office for International Cooperation and Mobility, will hold regular consultation sessions for all interested students until the end of the winter semester. The consultations will take place on the ground floor of the Faculty building (next to the Student Affairs Office) according to the following schedule:

Mondays and Tuesdays: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Wednesdays and Thursdays: 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
