In the Psychology of Organizations course, psychology students had the opportunity to host Nikola Čuvalo, from VALCON who shared his professional journey and experience working as an HR manager. Through an engaging and very open lecture, Nikola offered insights into what a career in human resources looks like from the inside — from his early beginnings, to the challenges of working with people, and everyday situations in an organizational setting. The lecture was both inspiring and valuable for everyone considering a career in organizational psychology and HR.

Psychology students Lana Paladin, Ivana Periš, and Stela Lara Tenšek published a paper titled: "Predictors of life-satisfaction in Croatian war veterans: a cross-sectional study". A study of 167 Croatian war veterans found that higher income and strong friendships are linked to greater life satisfaction, while not having a partner is associated with lower well-being. Other factors, such as age, gender, religiosity, and pet ownership, showed no significant impact.
The findings emphasize the importance of social connections and financial stability as key areas for support.

You can read more about the study here:

A group of graduate psychology students, Bruno Kačer, Dea Miletić, Tea Vranković and Nika Vuco; co-authored a new publication in the field of research ethics. This study examined emerging tools and frameworks designed to improve ethics review in research and innovation. Across 39 publications, it identified a shift from traditional checklist-based approaches toward more anticipatory and participatory methods, such as scenario planning, ethical matrices, and governance frameworks. These tools emphasise early ethics integration, stakeholder engagement, and the management of uncertainty across domains such as AI, genomics, and public health. The findings highlight the need for more adaptive, forward-looking ethics governance in complex research contexts. Publication is available at: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/08989621.2026.2642202

WORKSHOP “ME AND MY FEELINGS” AT DV ŠKRINJICA

A workshop titled “Me and My Feelings” was held at DV Škrinjica with a mixed group of 40 children. The aim of the workshop was to encourage children to recognize, understand, and express their emotions.

The workshop consisted of several parts. In the introductory section, the children participated in a discussion about different emotions they know and the situations in which they usually experience them. The children actively took part in the conversation and shared examples from their own experiences.

In the following activity, five basic emotions were presented through a story and pantomime, allowing the children to recognize how different emotions can be expressed in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

After that, the children were introduced to several strategies they can use to cope more easily with strong emotions and to help both themselves and their friends when someone feels sad, angry, or worried.

The workshop concluded with a creative activity in which the children expressed the importance of each emotion through drawing and educational games. A key message emphasized that in some situations we can feel several emotions at the same time and that all emotions are equally important.

The activity was led by Psychology students from Split, Kate Musa, Lara Kondić, Nensi Žuljević, Tina Rogošić, Maja Šćepanović, and Lana Nimac Kalcina, under the mentorship of psychologist Zlatko Bajić, as part of Psychology Week.

THE RISK OF SELF-DIAGNOSIS WORKSHOP

Our first-year graduate Psychology students, Sofia Soto Vrandečić and Barbara Trlaja, organized the workshop “The Risk of Self-diagnosis”, which was held at Klub Zona on March 2. Klub Zona is a platform through which the association Info zona provides support to individuals, organizations, and informal groups in implementing programs for young people. The program is carried out in Split, at Šperun, at Jerina Street 1.

During the workshop, they explored with participants the increasingly common phenomenon of self-diagnosis, especially in the context of social media and online mental health content. Through interactive activities, they analyzed examples from TikTok and Reddit and encouraged critical thinking about symptoms, context, and possible alternative explanations. They spoke about risks such as incorrect conclusions, increased anxiety, and delaying appropriate help, but also about how informing oneself can be a useful first step if used responsibly. The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness of the difference between informing oneself and making a diagnosis, and to emphasize the importance of professional assessment.
