University graduate study programme
General information on the study programme:
The university undergraduate study programme in Italian Language and Literature (Double Major) enables students to acquire competencies in the humanities with a particular emphasis on contemporary insights and developments in linguistics and in literary and cultural studies.
The programme is focused on the acquisition of the Italian language, mastery of fundamental terminology and theoretical approaches in linguistics and literary studies, and their application in the study of the Italian language and analysis of literary works written in Italian. The programme also ensures the familiarity with literary periods, as well as major authors and representative works.
Graduates of the undergraduate programme in Italian Language and Literature are qualified for employment in cultural and public institutions, publishing, media, tourism, and in assistant positions on projects, as well as in other job positions requiring knowledge of the Italian language, literature, and culture.
The undergraduate programme in Italian Language and Literature is comparable to equivalent Italian Studies programmes offered by other higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia, thereby facilitating student mobility and credit recognition within Croatia and internationally.
The university graduate study programme in Italian Studies (Double Major) is aimed at achieving advanced proficiency in Italian as well as at the application of acquired knowledge and research in Italian linguistics, literary studies, multimedia studies and glottodidactics. The programme has a dual structure: the students may opt for either the Teacher Education programme or the Translation Studies programme.
The Teacher Education programme develops the knowledge and competencies required for understanding and implementing the teaching and learning process as well as for designing courses and teaching units in Italian language and literature. It also enables a critical analysis and evaluation of different educational practices. The Translation Studies programme introduces students to the principles of translation studies and enables them to identify and apply appropriate translation strategies and tools. Students develop the core competencies necessary for interpreting, translating of multimedia texts, and translating of literary and specialised texts, while acquiring the ability to transfer and adapt appropriately cultural content from the source language to the target language.
Graduates of the Teacher Education programme may pursue employment in primary and secondary education, in schools of Italian as a foreign language, as well as in publishing, media, scientific and cultural institutions, and in business sector in the Republic of Croatia and other member states of the European Union.
Graduates of the Translation Studies programme are qualified for employment in publishing, media, scientific and cultural institutions, and in business sector in the Republic of Croatia and in other member states of the European Union.
