The mission of the Faculty

The mission of the Faculty can be expressed by the following determinants:

  • education of bachelors and masters in the field of social sciences and humanities who will successfully compete in the labour market with the acquired knowledge and competencies, and profiles positioning them as experts in their fields, and graduate who continuously, in their professional work, promote fundamental social and humanistic values;
  • education of doctors of science in the humanities who will contribute to the nurturing and improvement of the humanities in the national and international context;
  • development of a collaborative, flexible, and pluralistic intellectual environment for all its employees who will encourage students to be critical and creative and to promote their freedom of thought;
  • development of the identity and the promotion of study programs and research projects of the Faculty in the European and international context;
  • fostering the recognizability and uniqueness of the Faculty that arise from the specific historical and socio-cultural values of the Mediterranean environment;
  • encouraging teaching and scientific excellence in the fields of social sciences, humanities, and interdisciplinary sciences;
  • positioning of the Faculty within the Republic of Croatia, the broader regional and European context as a relevant institution in the planning and adoption of strategies of wider socio-political and economic significance;
  • positioning of the Faculty as a cultural incubator in the local and regional social community, in the field of preservation and the promotion of Croatian and other cultural heritage (organization of exhibitions, lectures, concerts, etc.).

The vission of the Faculty

The Faculty's vision is to strengthen and promote the humanities and social sciences in the local, national and European context and attract outstanding scientists and students from the region based on excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, research, and knowledge exchange. Contributing to the improvement of knowledge, promoting ethics, tolerance, cooperation, inclusion, responsibility, and the overall well-being of society are some of the essential tasks of the Faculty. The education of students and doctoral candidates according to high-quality standards and excellence in scientific work will ensure better positioning of the Faculty in the European higher education and scientific space and enable more intensive cooperation with international stakeholders. Continuous work on the development and improvement of lifelong learning programs will provide the Faculty with even better recognition among experts in the social, humanities, and interdisciplinary fields and the educational system of the Republic of Croatia at all levels. The vision of the Faculty as an important regional factor in the internationalization of study programs will help open the Faculty to international students and to cooperation with foreign scientists and teachers. By continuously and systematically improving the study conditions, the Faculty is positioned as an important factor in ensuring and promoting high-quality teaching processes and, in general, studying based on the modern achievements of higher education European institutions. The mission and vision of the Faculty and previous activities in all fields are aimed at taking an even more important place at the University of Split, at national, regional and local level, in the education of experts in the social sciences and humanities and in the development of scientific disciplines within the social sciences, humanities, and interdisciplinary sciences 
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split has a vital role in building a knowledge society and promoting teaching and scientific excellence through various study programs in the humanities and social sciences at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, as well as scientific centres of excellence and other forms of scientific activity. The Faculty seeks to get even closer to the broader community and actively shape socio-cultural policies through its projects.
