Lav, kuna i euro/ The lion, the marten and the euro: from leopard's heads to satyrs' horns - a lecture on heraldry

The Faculty alumni association presents a public lecture titled "Lav, kuna i euro / The lion, the marten and the euro: from leopard's heads to the horns of satyrs". The lecture will be delivered by Mate Božić on January 17, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. in classroom P15. As a co-author of the university textbook entitled Croatian coats of arms - genesis, symbolism, history (2021, Stjepan Ćosić and Mate Božić), which explains the origin, use and symbolism of a number of Croatian national coats of arms in a wide thematic and temporal range (from the middle of the 13th to end of the 17th century), the lecturer will explain the origin, symbolism and use of five heraldic signs (the so-called "oldest coat of arms of Croatia", Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, Istria and Slavonia) from the stylized crown of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. The lecture will also reflect on the use of animals (lion and marten) portrayed on money in Croatia in the period from the Middle Ages until the present day.
