The aim of the course is to gain insight into German literature of the 18th century in the European socio-historical context. Using the knowledge gained in previous literary courses, students will study and critically judge the most important literary phenomena as well as the authors and literary works of that period.

1. - to distinguish the specificities of the 18th century literary periods
2. - explain various historical, cultural, political and social influences on the development of enlightenment, Sturm und Drang and Weimar Classicism
3. - analyze and interpret selected 18th century literary works in the given context
4. - discuss the most important features and authors of German literature of the 18th century
5. - to distinguish and interpret the literary phenomena of the 18th century in the European cultural and socio-political context
6. - prepare a seminar paper on the topic of German literature in the 18th century
