Description:
Introduction to sociolinguistics as an interdisciplinary science that monitors language in the social context; gaining insight into the social structure of language and the social condition of language behavior; mastering the skills of reading relevant literature related to a particular thematic area.

Learning outcomes:
  1. Students will be able to:
    - define the underlying concepts, theories and problems of sociolinguistics;
  2. - consolidate previously acquired linguistic knowledge with novel knowledge in the field of sociolinguistics;
  3. - explain the complexity of the relationship between language, culture and society;
  4. - analyze the relations between different language structures (phonological, morphological and syntactic) and the social dimension of language;
  5. - explain the significance of the external context in the linguistic analysis.
