Ana Torlak, Ph. D. is an Associate Professor at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, where she has also served as Head of the Department since the 2023/2024 academic year. Her teaching and research are primarily focused on the study of ancient Salona, with a particular emphasis on the art-historical topography of the city, the history of archaeological excavations, and the afterlife of its monuments in later periods.

At the core of her research is the collection and analysis of dispersed data related to ancient Salona, with the aim of enriching and refining the art-historical and topographical understanding of this important Roman centre. Her scholarly contribution lies in a synthetic approach to the study of previously scattered collections of ancient monuments, as well as the systematic analysis of archival material to trace and clarify the provenance of individual artifacts. She is especially focused on locating monuments according to the sites where they were originally discovered, particularly those unearthed prior to the mid-19th century.

In addition to tracing the journeys of ancient monuments through time, a significant part of her work also deals with private collections of antiquities from the 19th century. By analysing available historical sources, she seeks to reconstruct these collections and better understand their role within the broader context of the reception of antiquity.

Dr Torlak is the author of the scholarly monograph In Search of the Lost: Ancient Monuments of Salona in Historical Sources from the 10th to the 19th Century, as well as of around twenty academic and professional articles published in both national and international journals. Through her work, she continuously contributes to the interdisciplinary dialogue between archaeology, art history, and the cultural history of Dalmatia.
