Ivana Dizdar was born in 1987 in Split, Croatia. She completed primary school in Zagvozd and graduated from the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Grammar School in Imotski. In 2011, she earned a Master's degree in Croatian Language and Literature (Teacher Education Track) and English Language and Literature (Translation Track) from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. She passed the Croatian State Professional Examination for Teachers in 2012. In 2021, she completed the Programme in Pedagogical, Psychological, Didactic, and Methodological Education at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.

In 2018, she enrolled as a full-time doctoral student at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Under the supervision of Professor Lech Miodyński, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in 2023, entitled (Re)Constructing Identity in the Croatian–Herzegovinian Borderland: Literary Narratives from 1878 to 1991, thereby obtaining the academic degree of PHD in Literary Studies.

She has gained extensive professional experience both in Croatia and abroad. She completed her teaching internship and taught Croatian language at Plokite Primary School in Split (2011–2013). She subsequently worked as a teacher in the Croatian Supplementary School in the Swiss Canton of Ticino (2013–2017), and later served as a Lecturer of Croatian at the University of Silesia in Katowice (2017–2020), Vilnius University (2021), and the Croatian Language and Culture Summer School for Foreign Learners organised by the Centre for Croatian Studies Abroad at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split (2022). Since the 2022/2023 academic year, she has been teaching at the Department of Croatian Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, where she delivers courses in Theory of Literature and Methodological Approaches to Literary Texts. Since the 2024/2025 academic year, she has also taught Croatian Medieval and Renaissance Literature and Croatian Literature from the Catholic Renewal to Romanticism. In addition, she works as a freelance translator and language editor of scholarly publications and professional texts for universities and cultural institutions.

She is the author of approximately twenty scholarly publications and has presented her research at international conferences held in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Poland, Türkiye, Australia, the United States, and Canada. She has delivered a total of twenty-six conference presentations (fourteen in Croatian and twelve in English), including one invited plenary lecture in English.

She is co-editor of the scholarly monograph Silk Roads & Electronic Superhighways: A Reader in Cross-Cultural Studies from Korea to Croatia (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, 2024) and served as a member of the editorial board for the monograph Nam June Paik – In the Groove (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, 2023).

She is a member of the editorial team of the academic journal Cross Cultural Studies Review and of the editorial board of the literary journal Mogućnosti. Since 2025, she has participated in the research project Mediterranean – Croatia – Identity: Historical and Cultural Intertwinings at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. She was previously a member of the international Seeding Project of the Centre for Cross-Cultural and Korean Studies and served on the organising committee of the international conference Spaces for Change in Literature, Hi/story and Cultural Imagination of Korea, The Mediterranean and Other Europe(s), held at the University of Split in 2023. She also served as secretary of the international conference The Peripheral in Croatian Language, Literature and Culture, held at the University of Silesia in Katowice in 2019.

In recognition of her research, she received the Graduate Student Travel Grant from the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) and the University of Pittsburgh (USA) in 2020. She also received funding from the Central State Office for Croats Abroad for the project Research on the Imotski–Herzegovinian Literary Region: Source Collection and Intercultural Cooperation.

She has participated in several projects promoting Croatian literature and culture in Croatia and Poland. In addition to her scholarly work, she has published numerous literary reviews and criticism, as well as four collections of poetry.

She is a member of the Croatian Writers' Association, Matica hrvatska, Književni krug Split, and the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.

She is proficient in English for academic and professional purposes and also speaks Italian and Polish.
