As part of the Career Days at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, a panel discussion was held at the Department of Psychology. During the event, students had the opportunity to explore various fields in which psychologists work and hear firsthand accounts from professionals employed across different sectors. The panelists included Ana Majić from the Center of Excellence of Split-Dalmatia County, Vesna Tudor Pavičić from Visoka Elementary School, Marta Grbić Barać from Caritas, and Meri Đula Ercegović from OTP banka d.d. Through discussion and the exchange of experiences, students learned about the day-to-day work of psychologists in diverse professional environments, their core tasks and responsibilities, and the challenges they encounter in their practice. The panel provided valuable insight into the broad range of employment opportunities for psychologists and helped students better connect their theoretical knowledge with practical experience. On Monday, 12 October 2026, a panel discussion entitled “Degree, Knowledge or Personality? What Do Employers Look for in Candidates” was held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, marking the opening of this year’s Career Days, organised by the Centre for Career Planning and Development of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, in cooperation with the Faculty’s teaching practice partners. The panel participants included Jolanda Pisac , a former student of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and an employee of the Archaeological Museum in Split, Lana Vučić , a pedagogue at HNK Hajduk Split, Ela Jurić Duvnjak , a pedagogue at the Mali Cvijetak Montessori Kindergarten, Maja Mimica , a sociologist and Research & Development Manager at NetHub (E.C.H.R. d.o.o.), and Prof. Dr. Antonela Marić , Coordinator for International Teaching Practice Partners. The panel focused on the question of what, beyond formal education and an academic degree, employers recognise and value in job candidates. The discussion centred on competencies that are often not directly related to the completed field of study but can play an important role in employment and professional development, such as communication and interpersonal skills, responsibility, initiative, adaptability, independence, and willingness to engage in continuous learning. The participation of representatives from various professional fields – ranging from culture and education to sport, entrepreneurship, and international cooperation – provided an opportunity to examine the employability of humanities and social sciences graduates from different perspectives. Particular emphasis was placed on connecting competencies acquired during university studies with the actual demands of the working environment, as well as on the importance of recognising and developing one's own potential during education. The panel discussion also provided an opportunity to reflect on the extent to which personal characteristics, motivation, and willingness to gain new experiences, alongside professional knowledge, are important for a successful start to a career. This further highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Faculty, employers, and teaching practice partners in preparing students for the professional challenges awaiting them after graduation. Career Days will continue until 16 October , with presentations by teaching practice partners of individual departments, during which students will have the opportunity to meet potential employers, learn about professional practice opportunities, and explore different career paths available to them after graduation.

From 12 to 16 October 2026, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split will once again host a meeting point for students, employers and the Faculty’s partner organisations (teaching bases) through “ Career Days ”, organised by the Faculty’s Career Planning and Development Centre in collaboration with its partner organisations. This year’s programme begins with a panel discussion titled “ Degree, Knowledge or Personality? What Employers Look for in Candidates ”, taking place on Monday 12 October at 10:00 in classroom P8. Through conversations with employers, we aim to address questions of particular importance to students preparing to enter the labour market: What, beyond formal education, makes a good candidate? Which skills and traits do employers value most? How important are communication and interpersonal skills, initiative, responsibility, adaptability and a willingness to learn during the hiring process? And finally, what factors tip the scales in favour of a specific candidate getting the job? Presentations by the Faculty departments’ partner organisations will also be a key part of Career Days. Students will have the opportunity to meet directly with the organisations and institutions where they can undertake professional internships, learn more about specific roles and work environments, and hear what is expected of young professionals after graduation. These meetings with partner organisations also offer a chance to connect the experience gained during their studies with future professional development opportunities. Through a week-long series of activities, we aim to introduce students to the professional world, encourage them to reflect on their career interests and demonstrate that a career is built not only on a degree, but also on experience, competencies, networking, initiative and a readiness to embrace new challenges. Career Days were successfully held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split from 23 to 27 March 2026, organised by the Career Planning and Development Centre. The programme opened with a panel discussion titled “ Beyond the Scope of the Profession: How We Build a Career (Un)predictably ”, moderated by Assistant Professor Mila Bulić. The panellists – Ana Plavša, Katarina Balić, Larisa Hržić, Marin Šarić, Mario Dadić, and Jelena Bikić – shared their experiences of diverse career paths, the importance of adaptability, and the role of acquired competences in professional development. The event attracted such a large audience that extra seating was needed; we thank all the students for their interest and participation. A special highlight of the programme was the presentation of internship sites, where students had the opportunity to meet the organisations and institutions offering professional internships and opportunities to develop their professional competences. Career Days once again underscored the importance of connecting the academic community with the labour market and provided students with valuable insights into various professional development opportunities. Through their participation in panels, presentations, and workshops, students had the opportunity to actively reflect on their own career paths and acquire practical knowledge that will assist them in future employment.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split is organizing Career Days, to be held from March 23 to March 27, 2026. All interested parties are invited to the workshop “Where to After Graduation?”, organised by the Croatian Employment Service (CISOK Split) and the Career Planning and Development Centre of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. The session will take place on 15 January 2026, starting at 1:00 pm (Room P20). The presenters are Marina Lacić and Anica Vojković, associates from the Career Information and Counseling Centre of the Croatian Employment Service in Split and alumni of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. They will present labour market statistics relevant to students of social sciences and the humanities, followed by an overview of employment options and labour market trends projected for the near future. Finally, the workshop will cover active employment policy measures and ways to improve employability, including opportunities for additional training, effective job application preparation, and advice on job interviews and CV writing.
