Description of research:
As a continuation of the Korean language and culture courses, organized at the Faculty and taught by guest lecturers from HUFS (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), this research project’s aim was the establishment of the Center for Cross-cultural and Korean Studies. The project, implemented at the Center, focuses on research in the field of cultural transfers, cultural and literary comparative studies, multimedia and comparative film and visual studies. The project’s aim is also to offer professional training in the field of cultural Korean studies.

Description of research:
The basic description of the project task is the temporal, spatial and terminological definition of modern sculpture in Croatia and its stylistic changes. In doing so, the broader contextual frameworks of sculptural creation in the period beginning at the very end of the 19th century and concluding in the mid-1970s are taken into consideration. In doing so, the social, political and economic formats within which such sculptural production was articulated will be clearly presented. Such an approach results in the outline of important exhibitions of sculpture and a critical review of the public reception of sculpture that is present within the Croatian territorial borders, but also in other areas. The proposed time frames studied are subject to change and will certainly shift during research, as will definitions of the basic characteristics of modern sculpture. The preparation of the project proposal also considered the fact that a large part of sculptural production in Croatia originated outside of Croatia, while drawing the attention of European and global audiences. Therefore, our research examines the extent to which and in what ways Croatian sculptors have disseminated new approaches to sculpture, which are the specific protagonists and how and whether their work can set a framework for discourse on the de-provincialization of the Croatian cultural circles. The expected result of this extensive research project is the publication of the scientific monograph titled Modern Sculpture in Croatia: Protagonists, Works, Contexts as well as its Glossary of Modern Sculpture. In co-organization with the International Cultural Center in Krakow, a one-day seminar on Ivan Meštrović was organized in 2017, and two international scientific conferences were organized (Modern Sculpture and Culture: Historiographical Approaches and Critical Analysis in 2017 and Sculpture at the Crossroads of Socio-Political Pragmatism, Economic Possibilities and Aesthetical Contemplation in 2018). At the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, a workshop titled Think Sculpture was organized in Split. The workshop’s aim was to critically reflect on sculpture in public spaces. Members of the project team took part in numerous international research conferences, and have undertaken valuable field research in numerous European cities.

Description of research:
The project "Adriana" is a contribution to the study of the phenomenon of maritime Croatian culture in the field of narrative literature, both fictional and non-fictional, and its reflection in the narratives of fiction in synchronic and diachronic perspectives. The project analyzed examples of oral non-fictional and fictional literature, outside the classical folkloristic framework of perception of the phenomenon of literature as a genre and poetically defined discourse. The research included trans-ethnic influences and permeations given by the same cultural matrix of the Adriatic cultural circle, as a dialogic culture whose basic principle is humor. Based on the written and systematized material, a systematic analysis, valorization and interpretation of texts from different aspects: literary, linguistic, ethnological and cultural anthropological, comparative and gender, and the research included different types of interpretation in the fields of stylistics, narratology, literary theory, dialectology, lexicology / lexicography, semiotics, rhetoric, ethnography and cultural anthropology.

Research description:
The project explored and deepened existing knowledge about the political, diplomatic and military history of the eastern Adriatic coast. As part of the project, research was conducted in the archives in Vienna, Rome and Venice, and based on their results, seven scientific monographs were published, which thematized the historical phenomena such as the resistance to the Ottoman rule in the Adriatic, the alla moderna military revolution, the post-Tridentine reform of the Catholic Church, the rivalry of the Habsburgs and Venice, the emergence of revolutionary France, the Habsburg Restoration and Adriatic politics in Austrian strategic thinking.

Project description:
The primary task of the project is to strengthen the innovation capacity and transformational role of universities, SMEs and NGOs in solving complex problems presented in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in developing innovative sustainable solutions through a model of cross-sectoral cooperation with better knowledge exchange between different stakeholders, graduates in the fields of social sciences and humanities, as well as higher employability of researchers. The main objectives of the project are: to develop educational programs for teachers in the field of social sciences and humanities, to support staff and experts in these fields, in order to improve their knowledge, skills and communication competencies, as well as to respond to the challenges of the UN Sustainable Development, Entrepreneurship and Research Approach and ways of thinking; develop a research-based approach based on a learning process in which students, professors and professionals work together to find solutions to successfully address the challenges of the UN Sustainable Development Goals; create a self-sustaining HUB for research and innovation in the social sciences and humanities in which higher education institutions, SMEs and NGOs will be able to share knowledge, facilitate further cooperation and strengthen common sustainable solutions at European level; improve the visibility of social and humanistic research and strengthen its impact on the wider socio-economic environment, especially in the field of sustainable transformation and innovation; strengthen cooperation between different sectors, improve networking channels and bridge the gap between research and practice.

Project description:
The recent rapid development of technology requires a new approach to teaching - education systems and teachers are struggling to keep up with new technical possibilities, which is why the project intends to provide educators with a methodological framework and guidelines to help them introduce innovative practices in the modern environment. On the other hand, students also try to keep up with the technological environment, which keeps them sectioned off and tucked away from the natural environment. BEAGLE partners find motivation in the belief that bioethical values and critical thinking are crucial elements, more than ever, in the development of a democratic, pluralistic, environmentally-conscious open society, which is why it is necessary to shift the focus of education to these elements. The BEAGLE project, therefore, considers school-age children (6 to 18-year-olds) as primary beneficiaries of this project, in addition to educators. The purpose of the project is to develop concrete guidelines for bioethical education that will help teachers implement skills, especially critical thinking. In addition, through the development of educational materials and manuals, BEAGLE will advance teaching skills in educators, and the available materials will deal with the practical application of educational strategies - such as organizing and conducting bioethical workshops, developing Socratic dialogue in classrooms and the like. Given that the project is aimed at the school-age children as well as educators, the focus will be on conducting bioethical workshops with the aim of developing bioethical values and critical thinking in school-age children. Further, BEAGLE will develop a trans-national school curriculum for bioethical education within which it will revise the current representation of bioethical values and critical thinking in schools. Ultimately, the development of the BEAGLE online archive and network for bioethical education will connect all professors and teachers through an open platform that will optimize the exchange of experiences and encourage faster implementation of innovative methods.

Research description:
The project goal is to strengthen the competencies of teachers in adult education through the development of their occupational standards and qualification standards and the design of a higher education curriculum for their education. The research determines the needs of the labor market for the qualifications of professionals in adult education, and then determines the competence profile of these professionals (teacher perspective) and analyzes the curricula for their training with the publication of a publication on methodology and good curriculum development practices. In addition to research, networking with foreign experts and the involvement of numerous stakeholders through interactive workshops and online consultations, the project contributes to the optimal design of occupational standards and qualification standards, as well as curriculum in higher education.
