Jelena Đorđević was born in Split, Croatia. In 2015, she graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Split with a double-major Master's degree in Croatian Language and Literature and English Language and Literature. In 2024, she finished the doctoral studies in Croatian Philology in an Intercultural Context at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. She defended her doctoral dissertation entitled Linguistic and Stylistic Features of the Four Gospels in the Croatian Language (supervisor: Prof. Zrinka Jelaska, PhD), receiving the distinction magna cum laude before the examination committee consisting of Prof. Davor Nikolić, PhD, Prof. Tomislava Bošnjak Botica, PhD, and Prof. Igor Marko Gligorić, PhD. She was thereby awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Science (PhD) in the field of Humanities, discipline of Philology, specialization in Croatian Studies.
After graduation, she worked as an English Language and Literature teacher within Croatia's professional traineeship programme (2015–2016), after which she passed the state professional examination. From the academic year 2016/17 to 2020/21, she served as an external lecturer at the Centre for Croatian Studies Abroad within the Department of Croatian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, where she taught Croatian as a second and foreign language at proficiency levels A1–B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). During this period, she also worked occasionally as an instructor of Croatian as a second or foreign language for Global LT, an internationally recognized provider of language training for multinational corporations, and for Euroclub.
Since the academic year 2020/21, she has been affiliated with the Department of Croatian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, initially as a title (adjunct) teaching assistant. In 2023, she was appointed Teaching Assistant, and in 2026, she was elected to the academic rank of Assistant Professor. She teaches courses in general linguistics and the Croatian standard language.
Since 2018, she has worked as a proofreader and language editor of scholarly monographs and literary works. She also translates from English into Croatian and from Croatian into English. Since 2022, she has collaborated on a freelance basis as an editor, proofreader, and translator with several publishing houses. Since the academic year 2024/25, she has been a member of the Editorial Board of Školski vjesnik, the scholarly journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. She has published numerous scholarly and professional papers in A1- and A2-indexed journals, focusing primarily on sociolinguistics, semantics, and the analysis of lexical, syntactic, and stylistic features of the Croatian language.
She has presented her research at numerous international scientific conferences in Croatia and abroad and has served on the organizing committee of two international conferences. Since the academic year 2025/26, she has been a member of the project team for the interdisciplinary research project The St. Jerome Wordsmith Workshop (Svetojeronimska kovačnica riječi). She has also participated in numerous science communication and public engagement activities, as well as in administrative work within the Department of Croatian Language and Literature. Her professional development has included training organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, and the Croatian Education and Teacher Training Agency, covering topics such as Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes, E-learning in Higher Education, Communication and Group Dynamics in Higher Education Teaching, Curriculum Design in Higher Education, and The Croatian Language in Diaspora Communities, among others.
