Silva Kalčić was born in Zagreb in 1967. In 1991, she graduated from the Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb, obtaining a professional qualification and the title of Senior Fashion Designer. In 1998, she graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, earning a degree in Art History and the professional title of Professor of Art History.
She completed her doctoral studies in Architecture and Urban Planning (Technical Sciences) at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb, in 2015. She defended her doctoral dissertation, entitled “Architecture and New Media – Media Facades, Video and Light Installations”, on 14 March 2015.
By decision of the Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education dated 8 April 2016, she was elected to the scientific rank of Research Associate in the interdisciplinary field of science, with appointment areas in Art History (6.05) and Architecture and Urban Planning (2.01).
On 13 October 2017, she was elected to the academic rank of Senior Assistant / Expert Associate in the humanities, field of Art History (6.05), and confirmed in the scientific rank of Research Associate in the interdisciplinary field of science, with appointment areas in Art History (6.05) and Architecture and Urban Planning (2.01).
Her most recent promotion was to the academic rank of Associate Professor, in April 2024.
Silva Kalčić is a member of the Croatian Association of Art Historians, the Croatian Designers Association, the Association of Architects of Zagreb, the Croatian Architects Association, HULU Split, ULUPUH, AICA Croatia, and the Croatian Journalists' Association.
She was a member of the Visual Arts Cluster of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia from 2019 to 2022. She served on the jury panels of the Croatian Section of AICA for the 54th Zagreb Salon of Visual Arts (2019), the 55th Zagreb Salon of Applied Arts and Design (2020), the 57th Zagreb Salon of Visual Arts (2023), and the 58th Zagreb Salon of Applied Arts and Design (2024).
She was also a member of the Presidency of the Croatian Society for Integration, a member of the Committee for the Award of the City of Zagreb in Fine Arts and Architecture in 2010 and 2011, and a member of the Visual Arts Council of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia from 2012 to 2015.
Silva Kalčić is a member of the international project La Falsa Biennale 1942 and participated in projects of the University of Zagreb in the fields of fashion theory and culture, as well as Art as Idea: Conceptual Practices in Croatia, among others.
She organized three international scholarly and professional conferences (the first of which also included an artistic programme), Exhibitive Cartographies, jointly hosted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, and the Croatian Section of AICA, between 2022 and 2024.
2024 – Special Recognition of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, for an outstanding contribution to the reputation of the Faculty within the local community through participation in the project Strategy for the Development of the City of Split until 2030.
2023 – Annual Award of the Croatian Society of Art Historians for the Promotion of Interactivity and Visual Culture (for 2022), awarded in recognition of the activities of the Croatian Section of AICA, of which she served as President, and of the award-winning programmes Art Criticism Workshop, accompanied by the International Scientific, Professional and Artistic Conference Exhibitive Cartographies, and the public discussion programme AICA: Dialogues.
2009 – City of Zagreb Award as author, selector and curator of the 43rd Zagreb Salon of Applied Arts and Design.
