Professor Eldi Grubišić Pulišelić, PhD, was born in 1971. She graduated in 1994 from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar, earning the professional title of Master of German Language and Literature and English Language and Literature. She completed her postgraduate studies in literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where in March 2004 she successfully defended her Master of Science thesis entitled "The Life and Literary Work of Murad Efendi". In 2007, she obtained her PhD from the Department of German Language and Literature at the University of Zadar, defending her doctoral dissertation titled "Woman and Marriage in the Dramas of German Playwrights from 1870 to 1890".
She was appointed to the academic rank and position of Assistant Professor in 2009, Associate Professor in 2013, Full Professor in 2019, and Tenured Full Professor in 2024.
At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, she founded the Department of German Language and Literature and served as its Head for two terms. She is a member of the Faculty’s Science Committee, President of the Student Disciplinary Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Faculty's Marulus Foundation. Additionally, she is a member of the presidency of the Association of Germanists of South-Eastern Europe (Südosteuropäischer Germanistenverband – SOEGV).
She publishes her work in prominent domestic and international journals, as well as with reputable publishers. Her research focuses on the literary works of today nearly forgotten and marginalized German and Austrian writers, women's literature, the construction of female identity in literary works, the connections between German-language and Croatian literature, and contemporary Croatian literary production. She has made a significant contribution to the research of the literary opus of the almost forgotten Austrian writer Mela Hartwig, dedicating a number of papers and a scientific monograph to her.
To date, she has published three independent scientific monographs and a large number of scientific papers, including 13 papers in journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOScc) — nine of which are in the Current Contents Connect database — and 10 papers indexed in Scopus.
She has presented at around twenty international scientific conferences in various countries and has reviewed several scientific monographs, edited volumes, and numerous papers for both Croatian and foreign journals. She is a member of the editorial boards of several scientific and professional journals (Educa – Journal for Education, Science and Culture, Istraživanja, Mogućnosti, and The Journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split). She collaborated with the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography on the Croatian Literary Encyclopedia project. She also participated in the scientific research project "Contrastive Study of Croatian and German Lexicon" as well as the Tempus project "Bosnia and Herzegovina Qualifications Framework for Higher Education". She actively participates in science and art popularization programs (Science Festival at the University of Split, Literary Salon of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, and symposia of the German Society for Croatian Studies / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kroatistik).
She is the recipient of the University of Split Science Award for her contribution to the field of humanities for the year 2022.
Professor Eldi Grubišić Pulišelić has extensive teaching experience and teaches various courses in German-language literature at the undergraduate and graduate university study programs of German Language and Literature. Furthermore, she teaches the elective course "The Mediterranean in the Travelogues of European Female Authors" at the PhD program in Humanities (Literature and Culture module) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split.
Under her mentorship and co-mentorship, numerous undergraduate and graduate theses have been defended at the Faculty in Split, as well as one doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Humanities at the Džemal Bijedić University of Mostar.
As the key figure in founding the Department of German Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, she led the development of the accredited double-major undergraduate and graduate university study programs in German Studies, designing numerous courses in the field of German and Austrian literature.
Since the founding of the Department, she has been teaching various courses, including: Introduction to the History of German Literature; Introduction to Literary Interpretation; Culture and Civilization of German-Speaking Countries; 19th-Century German Literature; The Literary Work of Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach; and 20th-Century German Literature I. Her teaching work is continuously rated with the highest grades by students.
She was awarded the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Teaching Excellence Award for the academic year 2022/2023 for her exceptionally successful work in teaching and student engagement.
