I was born on January 6, 1963 in Rijeka, where I completed primary and secondary school. I am a citizen of the Republic of Croatia and of Croatian ethnicity. I enrolled in the study of pedagogy in 1981 at the Faculty of Pedagogy in Rijeka and graduated in 1986, earning the title of graduate pedagogue-professor.
In 1986, I enrolled in the postgraduate study of pedagogy at the Faculty of Pedagogy in Rijeka. I completed the postgraduate master's study on April 24, 1990, with the defense of my master's thesis entitled "Elective and optional teaching in primary and secondary education" and obtained the professional title of Master of Social and Human Sciences in the field of pedagogy.
On June 10, 2005, I submitted the topic of my doctoral dissertation entitled "Structure of progressive pedagogy of primary school teachers" to the Faculty of Philosophy in Rijeka. I defended my doctoral thesis on December 19, 2007. at the Faculty of Philosophy in Rijeka and obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Science in the field of social sciences, scientific field of educational sciences, branch of systematic pedagogy.
I was entered into the register of scientists and researchers in 1990 in the scientific field: pedagogy (registration number 151044).
In 1986, I was employed as a young researcher-researcher at the Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Pedagogy in Rijeka, within the project "Teacher Education System" (1.10.01.05.00) financed by the Croatian Science Foundation from 1980 to 1985 - head Prof. Dr. Bogosav Kovačević. I was elected to the title of scientific assistant for the scientific field of pedagogy on April 19, 1990.
At the Faculty of Education in Rijeka, since 1990, I have been conducting seminars and exercises in the following courses: Methodology of Pedagogical Research, Didactics, Systematic Pedagogy, Leisure Time Pedagogy, Pedagogical Counseling in the study of pedagogy, preschool education and classroom teaching. I have organized professional practice for students in the study of classroom teaching and preschool education.
From 1995 to 2000, I participated as an associate in the project of cooperation between families and schools "Open School" - project manager prof. dr.sc. Marko Mušanović.
In June 2000, I started working at the Teacher Training College in Gospić, where I taught in the following courses: Didactics, Pedagogy, Leisure Time Pedagogy in the study of teachers, and Theories of Education, Methods and Techniques of Educational Work in the study of in-service teacher training. I was elected to the teaching position of senior lecturer in the scientific field of social sciences, field of educational sciences on May 29, 2001.
On July 1, 2001, I was employed as a senior lecturer in the scientific field of social sciences, field of educational science with 80% of working time at the Teacher Training College in Split, University of Split, and 20% of working time at the Teacher Training College in Gospić, University of Rijeka.
At the Teacher Training College in Split, University of Split, I taught the courses Didactics and Fundamentals of Pedagogy in the teacher training and preschool education studies, as well as seminars in the course Methodology of Pedagogical Research. As an external associate, I worked at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Educational Sciences in Split, conducting seminars in the courses Didactics and Fundamentals of Pedagogy.
From 2002 to 2005, I was an associate in the scientific research project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia "Pedagogical Aspects of Curriculum and Innovative Primary Schools" - the main researcher and project manager is prof. dr.sc. Marko Mušanović (project code 0090025).
In December 2005, I was employed at the Faculty of Philosophy in Split, University of Split, as a senior lecturer in the scientific field of social sciences, field of educational sciences, and I teach the courses Didactics, Fundamentals of Pedagogy, and Pedagogical Communication at the Department of Teacher Education and Preschool Education. I was elected to the teaching title of senior lecturer (re-election) in the scientific field of social sciences, field of educational sciences, branch of systematic pedagogy on May 30, 2006.
On June 17, 2009, I was elected to the scientific title of scientific associate in the scientific field of social sciences – field of pedagogy, and on October 29, 2009, I was elected to the scientific title of assistant professor.
The Board of Directors for the field of social sciences – field of pedagogy, speech therapy, educational and rehabilitation sciences and kinesiology elected me to the scientific title of senior scientific associate on March 25, 2014, and I was elected to the scientific and teaching title of associate professor on May 16, 2014 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Split.
By decision of the Board of Directors for Social Sciences on April 2, 2020, I was elected as a scientific advisor in the field of social sciences, field of pedagogy. At the 10th regular session of the Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Split in the academic year 2019/20, held on July 20, 2020, based on the announced competition of the Faculty, and in accordance with the opinion and proposal of the University of Zadar and the decision of the competent Board of Directors, the Council adopts a Decision on my election to the scientific and teaching title and to the corresponding position of full professor for the scientific field of social sciences, field of pedagogy. At the session of the Senate of the University of Split, held on September 24, 2020, my election to the scientific and teaching title of full professor, in the scientific field of social sciences, field of pedagogy, was confirmed.
I am a member of the Council of the Doctoral Study of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Educational Sciences, University of Mostar, as well as a reviewer of the same doctoral study.
In my scientific production, I am largely focused on contemporary issues of didactics. Scientific activity can be seen from my engagement in publishing papers, participating in scientific conferences in the country and abroad, and in organizing scientific conferences in Croatia and abroad.
I have actively participated or am participating in scientific projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia (MZOS). I am a co-author of the manual Croatian Qualifications Framework, an introduction to qualifications, published in Croatian and English, which is the basic document for the implementation of the national qualifications framework of the Republic of Croatia.
Since April 2019, I have been a working group associate in the project team on the project "Competence standards of teachers, pedagogues and mentors" of the European Social Fund, UP.03.1.1.03.0056.
In addition to the interdisciplinary approach that I apply in analyzing important problems in teaching, my approach to current issues and problems related to contemporary teaching models and other phenomena of didactics, which I analyze from the aspect of (post)modernism, is also significant. In my works, I particularly consider problems related to the didactic aspects of violence, issues of lifelong learning. There is also a visible focus on innovating some didactic topics, such as innovating approaches to learning.
My international recognition, international recognition of my scientific work and the importance within the framework of national content can be recognized through my research work on the international project TaSDI-PBS (2016 – 2018 Erasmus Plus K2). I was the head of the Institutional Project of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Split, Implementation of Contextual Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Split (FFST-INST-202) and Perspectives of Contemporary Teaching Models (FFST-INST-202). Furthermore, the international recognition of my scientific work is recognizable through the indexing and citation of published works in the Scopus and WOS databases. I participated in the work of the program and organizational committees of international scientific conferences. I am the recipient of a letter of appreciation from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Educational Sciences, University of Mostar.
The interdisciplinary approach that I apply in analyzing important problems in teaching is also significant in my approach to current issues and problems related to contemporary teaching models and other didactic phenomena that I analyze from the aspect of (post)modernism. In my works, I especially consider problems related to the didactic aspects of violence, issues of lifelong learning. There is also a visible focus on innovating some didactic topics, such as innovating approaches to learning.
Scientific interests are related to contemporary pedagogical trends and contextual teaching.
