The aim of this course is to familiarize students with key mathematical ideas and methods throughout history, the biographies of great mathematicians, and their contributions to the development of many scientific disciplines; to develop critical thinking about the evolution of mathematics; to explore interdisciplinary connections between mathematics and other sciences in order to understand the broader context and practical applications of mathematical discoveries throughout history; and to motivate students for further mathematical education.

1. The student will demonstrate methods of calculation throughout history.
2. The student will report on key events in the biographies of great world mathematicians.
3. The student will explain the influence and contributions of great world mathematicians.
4. The student will connect and explain the causes and consequences of the development of mathematical ideas and methods, as well as the role of mathematics in science, art, and society.
5. The student will recommend which facts, discoveries, and contributions from the history of mathematics could be applied as motivational stories during teaching.
6. The student will connect and describe the chronological development of a particular branch of mathematics.
