Associate Professor Dubravka Kuščević, PhD, was born on November 30, 1964, in Split. She graduated from the University of Split, qualifying as a primary school teacher in 1984 and as a professor of visual arts education and art history in 1989. She obtained her master’s degree in art history in 2001 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, and completed her PhD in 2012 at the Faculty of Pedagogy, University of Sarajevo, specializing in the methodology of visual arts education.
She began her academic career as an external associate at the Teachers' College of the University of Split in 1994, having previously worked as a visual arts teacher in primary education from 1990 to 1996. At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, she teaches, participates in developing new study courses, and mentors students writing master's theses in art education.
Dubravka Kuščević’s scientific research encompasses fields of art pedagogy and the teaching methodology of visual arts education, with a special focus on children's artistic creativity, the development of visual arts competencies among pupils and university students, and the enhancement of future teachers' competencies in teaching visual arts. Her research is also focused on examining visual preferences, aesthetic development, and students' attitudes toward visual arts and cultural heritage, contributing significantly to modern art pedagogy.
She is the author of numerous scientific papers published in domestic and international journals, and actively participates in research activities by presenting at national and international conferences. She serves as a reviewer for scientific publications, is a member of organizational and program committees for scientific conferences, and participates in international academic mobility programs. She is listed in the Register of Scientists of the Republic of Croatia under researcher ID 244310.
Her professional activities are focused on bridging scientific insights with educational practice through lectures and workshops on visual arts education at professional conferences, in collaboration with the Education and Teacher Training Agency – Split Regional Office. She serves as a member of the Committee for Professional Examinations in Visual Arts for primary education in Split-Dalmatia County. Additionally, she authors professional papers in art education and reviews professional monographs, children's art exhibitions, and other professional content.
