Description:
Course objectives:
- awareness of internal formal structure and functional purpose of the verbal classroom interaction
- familiarity with basic classroom research methods.
- understanding the influence of classroom interaction upon learning outcomes.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
-define the basic tenets of different approaches to classroom discourse analysis
-describe the basic features of classroom discourse and classroom as a social and speech situation
-describe and apply different systems of classroom discourse analysis
-describe and analyse students' verbal behaviour (moves) during a lesson
-describe and analyse the teacher's verbal behaviour during a lesson
-describe and analyse the use of mother tongue in classroom interaction
-explain the implications of classroom discourse research for language teaching
