As part of the “Sociological Conversations” lecture series, jointly organized by the Croatian Sociological Association – Split Branch and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split, a lecture entitled The Long Shadow of Gendered Traditions: Work, Family and Future Pathways in Times of Social Change will be held.
The lecture will be delivered by Associate Professor Peter Gladoic Håkansson (lead speaker), with contributions from Malin Axelsson, Professor Sara Eldén, Associate Professor Elin Ennerberg, Dr Mona Hemmaty, Dr Janna Lundberg, and Dr Frida Wikstrand from Malmö University.
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at 10:30 a.m., in Room P13, at Poljička cesta 35, Split, in the building of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.
The lecture will begin with a presentation of the forthcoming edited volume The Long Shadow of Gendered Traditions (Emerald), edited by Peter Gladoic Håkansson. It will explore how gendered traditions shape experiences of work, family and future-making, with a particular focus on data from Sweden and Croatia.
Building on this comparative perspective, the lecture will also present insights from ongoing research on work, career pathways, future aspirations, gender, migration and precarity in contemporary Sweden. It will further consider how changing social conditions shape the opportunities and constraints individuals encounter across the life course.
All interested colleagues and members of the public are warmly invited to join us for the lecture and discussion.
