The undergraduate study programme in German Language and Literature enables students to acquire advanced linguistic and pragmatic competencies in German and provides education in the humanities that prepares graduates to navigate the labour market successfully. Owing to their strong foundation in the German language, as well as their ability to engage with a wide range of topics related to German language, linguistics, literature, and culture, graduates of the programme have opportunities for employment in various institutions and organisations connected with the German-speaking world.Graduates may find employment in associations, governmental and non-governmental organisations, diplomatic and economic representative bodies, the media, business enterprises, marketing, public relations, culture, and tourism. In line with the mission and vision of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, graduates of German Language and Literature are recognised as experts in the field of the German language. Through the competencies acquired during their studies, as well as through participation in a collaborative, flexible, and pluralistic intellectual environment that continuously fosters critical thinking, creativity, and freedom of thought, they promote fundamental social and humanistic values and contribute to the long-term development and advancement of society.Compared with similar study programmes in the Republic of Croatia, the undergraduate study programme in German Language and Literature offers a greater number of contact hours in Language Practice courses aimed at developing and refining students’ language competencies, as well as a range of distinctive elective courses. |
Teaching and scientific excellence are the foundations upon which the quality of the entire learning and teaching process in the graduate study programme German Language and Literature is built. While the undergraduate study programme enables students to acquire advanced linguistic and pragmatic language competences in German, the graduate study programme further enhances/perfects these Building on the knowledge and skills acquired at the undergraduate level, the graduate study programme German Language and Literature intensively incorporates the acquisition of theoretical knowledge on pedagogical competences required for successful teaching practices in the instruction of German language, culture, and literature, as well as for performing other activities in the contemporary labour market. Owing to this educational profile, graduates holding a Master’s degree in Education in German Language and Literature have opportunities for employment in various educational institutions, as well as in institutions or companies connected with the German-speaking world. They may therefore pursue careers in schools and other educational institutions, associations, governmental and non-governmental organisations, diplomatic and economic representative bodies, the media, business enterprises, marketing, public relations, culture, and tourism. In accordance with the mission and vision of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, Masters of German Language and Literature are shaped as experts in the fields of German language, literature, and didactics who, in their professional work – thanks to the competences acquired, as well as the collaborative, flexible, and pluralistic intellectual environment, in which they are continually encouraged toward critical thinking, creativity, and freedom of thought – continuously promote fundamental social and humanistic values and contribute to the long-term development and advancement of society. |

To enrol in the double-major graduate study programme German Language and Literature, a completed accredited double-major undergraduate study programme in German Language and Literature is required with a minimum of 180 ECTS credits, in combination with another double-major undergraduate study programme. The graduate study programme German Language and Literature may be combined with any double-major study programmes offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split.The programme lasts 2 years (4 semesters). Upon completion of the double-major graduate study programme German Language and Literature, a minimum of 60 ECTS credits is acquired, out of a total minimum of 120 ECTS credits of the graduate study programme.The requirements for enrolment into higher years of study are defined by the Faculty Council Decision, which is issued for each academic year and posted on the Faculty’s website. Specific requirements needed for enrolment in individual courses are indicated in the syllabi of those courses. |

Upon completion of the undergraduate study programme in German Language and Literature, holders of a bachelor's degree may continue their education by enrolling in the graduate study programme in German Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split or at other higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia and abroad. |
